BC Baseball Academy
Where Competitive Players Train!
(Updated 7/10/08)
The BC Baseball Academy offers many services built to meet the needs of today’s player. The following is a brief overview of our services designed to provide interested parties with information about what the BC Baseball Academy offers.
StarPath (Summer)
The StarPath teams are designed to provide the player with instruction in all phases of the game. Each team will consist of approximately 12 players to ensure as much playing time as possible and will play a challenging schedule from April to mid July. Team members will be provided & expected to attend games, practices, and individual lessons to ensure the proper repetition and understanding that is needed for improvement. While learning how to play to win will be a focus of these teams, the final score is not. These teams’ main goal will be development, both of the team and each of its members, and learning how to play the game properly. The BC Academy believes that learning how to play the game properly is much more important than anything a scoreboard shows. The Academy’s goal is to develop better players and better teams at the end of each day and the end of each season. These teams also will provide an opportunity for players to become part of a BC Baseball League team.
StarPath (Fall
)These teams are set up similar to the summer teams. Each team will consist of approximately 12 members but during the fall season, games are only on weekends from mid August to mid October. The focus of fall baseball is more instructional in nature than summer ball while the atmosphere remains competitive.
BC Fall Team
These teams will be formed from BC League players whose teams are not playing fall. The BC Baseball Academy would like to give these players the opportunity to continue playing until October. This will not be a StarPath team however; a member of the BC Academy staff will be the coach. This team can be also be used by players wanting to be evaluated so they can play in the BC League the following spring. The BC Baseball Academy will never recruit these players or any players that are currently playing on a BC league team. Our goal is not to take players from other league teams. Rather, we want to form teams from players new to the BC league or from players needing a place to play.
Camps
BC camps will run at various times throughout the year. Appropriate times may include, but are not limited to, summer camps, Holiday break camps, and spring break camps. These camps can be set up many different ways such as team camp, hitting camp, pitching camp, infield or outfield camp, and catching camp. Each camp will be set up to address a specific part and the game and all instruction will focus around the skills needed to excel at that part of the game. More specific camp information will follow.
Clinics
Clinics will be similar to camps but will usually be shorter in length. Many clinics will be 1-day clinics and last a few hours. The focus of these clinics will be much sharper than camps as well. For example, a camp may focus on infield play but a clinic may focus on turning a double play or the footwork required by a first baseman. Clinics are also designed to allow for guest instructors to come to BC Academy and share their knowledge. These will be held at various times throughout the year and more information is to follow.
Lessons
The BC Baseball Academy believes that private lessons are essential to development. Whether the lessons are for hitting, pitching, or defense, these lessons lead to much quicker development. Simply, baseball players and teams are made, not only in the cages and practice mounds between games, but also in the off-season. Tremendous improvements can be made at these times in many areas. The BC Baseball Academy does not want to “start over” during each preseason. The goal is to have the players start each preseason much improved over the end of the previous fall season. The BC Baseball Academy also believes that all StarPath players have a big advantage over other teams and their members. The advantage is that our players get lessons from the same coaching staff that sees them play in their games. The same staff member that teaches their lessons gets to see them in live action and sees how they react to game speed and game pressures. Many times this is not the case and we feel that this is a huge advantage for our players and this will lead to much more individualized instruction both in games and during lessons. Members of all StarPath teams will be required to attend a minimum of 12 off-season private lessons in addition to the team workouts. While the cost of the team workouts are built into the team fees, private lesson fees will be an additional cost to each player. However, members of the StarPath teams will receive a discount on all lessons.
