The BC Baseball Academy, under the direction of Bob Coons, a former high school baseball coach from Jefferson City High School, will be conducting tryouts for fall and summer high school travel teams. The tryouts will be conducted at the Atkins Complex at the Boone County Fairgrounds located off Highway 63 and Oakland Gravel Road on Sunday, July 26, and Sunday, August 9. Tryouts will start at 1PM and will done by 4PM and possibly earlier. These tryouts will take place regardless of the weather. In case of inclement weather, we will have tryouts in the BC Baseball Academy Indoor Facility at Twin Oaks (In cast of inclement weather, call BC Baseball's Hotline Number to check tryout location -- 573-442-3693.) Players only need to attend one of the tryout sessions; however they are welcome to attend both.
This fall, a high school aged select team, Team BC, will be picked from these tryouts to play against Junior Colleges and other select high school aged teams on Saturday, Sunday or both for 7-8 weeks. This team will have at least one practice per week. If there are enough players to form an additional select team, there may be two teams, an older team playing the previously described schedule and a younger team which would participate in tournaments or games against against other high school aged teams. In fact, during the fall of 2008, Team BC, our college prospect team, competed extremely well, beating two junior college squads. Also, all eligible players which played on Team BC in the fall of 2008 have been offered scholarships into colleges for next year.
This fall, a Varsity and Junior Varsity team will be picked from these same tryouts to play a local schedule against other high school varsity and junior varsity teams. Games will be on either Saturday, Sunday or both for 7-8 weeks. These teams will have at least one practice per week. Last fall, our fall varsity team was league champion and was champion of the league tournament. The junior varsity team finished strong by winning 4 of the last 6 games they played.
Next summer, a high school aged select team, Team BC, will travel and play against other select high school aged teams for weekend events (Thursday through Sunday or Friday through Sunday) over an 8-9 week period in June and July, following the high school baseball season. This team will have one or more practices per week, in addition to the weekend schedule. If there are enough players to form an additional select team, there may be two teams, an older team playing the previously described schedule and a younger team, similar to the fall teams. Evaluations from these tryouts may be used for selection for next summer's Team BC.
Next summer, there also will be a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. Each team will play a nine-week schedule during the summer of 2010. Games during the week will typically be against high school summer teams from Jefferson City, Jefferson City Helias, Columbia Hickman, and Columbia Rock Bridge. Each team will play in weekend tournaments and participate in several “showcase events.” Evaluations from these tryouts may be used for selection for next summer's Varsity and Junior Varsity teams.
Additional information on the fall and summer teams will be provided at the tryouts.
The BC Baseball Academy is committed to helping develop high school baseball players. The three teams in the fall of 2008 and the Varsity team playing in the summer of 2009 have had much success. The academy plans to build on the success that those teams and players experienced. We hope to develop the same type of success story this fall and next summer.
