PLAYER EVALUATION DAY

RESCHEDULED FOR FOR JANUARY 21

SPECIAL 7U & 8U EVALUATION DAY STILL SET FOR JANUARY 20

At BC Baseball's Twin Oaks Complex

535 North Purdy Lane, Columbia, MO

Evaluation Days begin at 2PM on both dates

Due to inclement weather and poor road conditions on the originally scheduled date (Sunday, January 14, 2007), the BC Baseball League has rescheduled its January Player Evaluation Day for Sunday, January 21, 2007, beginning at 2PM.  The Special 7U & 8U Evaluation Day still will be held on Saturday, January 20, also beginning at 2PM.  These Evaluation Days are for players who are interested in joining BC Baseball Academy teams or BC Baseball League teams for the 2007 season.

The January 21 Evaluation Day will be for all age groups -- 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U.  This is the fourth Player Evaluation Day to be held by the BC Baseball Academy in response to phone calls and e-mails from parents with players interested in becoming part of the BC Baseball League.  Openings are available for players in every age group.

The January 20 Evaluation Day is being held specifically for 7U and 8U aged players (and even advanced 6-year old players) who are interested in playing in a 7U/8U Player Pitch Division.  The BC Baseball Academy will be organizing academy teams and league teams in this division.  The 7U/8U Player Pitch Division provides teams with a pitching clinic, eight league games and a league-sponsored tournament of 4 more games.  This division begins with the pitching clinic in April with games starting in mid-May. (NOTE: 7U/8U Players can go to either Evaluation Day, but do not need to go to both.)

It is recommended that parents contact Academy Director Nick Schwieder in advance of the Evaluation Days, although this is not mandatory.  Nick can be reached via phone at (573) 289-2993 or via e-mail at nschwieder@bcbaseball.org (NOTE: If players are unable to make one of the listed dates for evaluation, contact Coach Schwieder for a different date.)

Parents and players will meet in the Twin Oaks Concession Stand before beginning the evaluations. Evaluations will be held in the Indoor Facility at the Twin Oaks Complex, unless unseasonable warm weather allows for going outdoors..  Players should provide their own gloves, bats, helmet (if you have one) and bring spikes (for outdoors) and turf or tennis shoes (for indoors).

Player Evaluations Will Be Held For The Following Age Groups:

 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U

NOTE: The 7U and 8U Players Will Play In A Player Pitch Division

FORMER MIZZOU PLAYER NICK SCHWIEDER TO BE ACADEMY DIRECTOR

BC Baseball is pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Schwieder as the Academy Director for the newly opened BC Baseball Academy.  Nick, 30, grew up in St. Louis and attended St. Louis University and Missouri on a baseball scholarship his freshmen year.  After transferring to Mizzou in the fall of 1995, Nick became the Tigers' catcher.  He was a member of the 1996 Missouri team that went from “worst to first” to capture the final Big 8 Conference regular season title, earning the team an NCAA regional appearance.

Upon graduating with a degree in Education, Nick signed as a free agent with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League.  Midway through his first season with the Otters, Nick was offered and signed a contract with the Anaheim Angels organization where finished out the 1998 season and was an invitee to the 1999 Spring Training.  After being released by the Angels, he passed up other playing opportunities to begin his coaching career.

Coach Schwieder’s first head coaching job was in mid-Missouri at Bunceton High School.  He then relocated to Kansas City and joined Winnetonka High School as an assistant baseball coach.  He also began a 3-year stint as a coach in the Kansas City Sluggers organization in 2002.  After one year as an assistant coach at Winnetonka, Nick was the school's head coach from 2003 through 2006.

Nick has been happily married to Katie Cole, a former gymnast at Mizzou, for 5 years and they are the proud parents of Abbie, 3, and James, 2.
