League Registration The BC Baseball League
is entering its eighth season by expanding its offering of opportunities
to parents and players to play “real baseball.”
Because of continued requests, the BC Baseball League will offer
individual registration to form select teams in its 9-10 year old
division and in its 7-8 year old machine pitch division.
More information on these divisions is included below. For those of you
somewhat unfamiliar with the BC Baseball League, the league is an
organization of teams playing USSSA baseball at the Twin Oaks Sports
Complex, located east of Columbia near the Route Z exit.
Teams and players in this league come from all over Central
Missouri, but mostly from Boone, Callaway, Audrain and Cole counties. The purpose of the BC
Baseball League is to organize and promote youth baseball to perpetuate
the interest and the love of the game and to provide an opportunity for
teams to compete in baseball at a higher level.
The affiliation with the USSSA (United States Specialty Sports
Association) provides an opportunity for the league members to qualify
for state, regional and national championship play.
The league members qualify as “teams”, not all-star squads,
for this post-season play. In
fact, BC Baseball League teams have won or consistently placed high in
state tournament play over the last five years. Because the teams in
the league’s older age groups (11-12 and 13-14 division) are
coach-picked teams, there has been a request by parents over the years
to offer an opportunity to “sign-up” to play as individuals in the
9-10 age group and to re-instate the 7-8 pitching machine division,
after discontinuing this division for two years because of a lack of
field space. Thus, for the
2001 season, the BC Baseball League will add these additional
opportunities for players. INFORMATION
ON THE 7-8 PITCHING MACHINE DIVISION The rules for the 7-8
pitching machine division are “real baseball” rules, with the
exception of utilizing a pitching machine (instead of a pitcher) and
several other minor changes, such as no stealing and four outfielders.
The rules of this division provide for a continuous batting order
(everyone is in the batting order, even though they may not be playing
defense at that time). The
game consists of a 6-inning game with a 1 hour, 15 minute time limit,
played by “real baseball” rules with three outs to an inning and
umpire(s) calling balls, strikes and outs.
This division will play a 12-game season and one league-sponsored
tournament. Games will be
played on Saturday afternoons and/or Monday nights through May, June and
early July. Teams will play
no more than one game per night with game times of 6PM or 7:30 PM. Teams will be organized
by schools, towns or areas so friends and classmates can play on the
same team. In addition to
its games and tournament, all teams will be provided with a four-week
player, coach and parent clinic (to be held on Monday nights in late
April and early May) at the Twin Oaks Sports Complex.
This clinic, to be run by University of Missouri Baseball
Assistant Coach Chris Smith, is included in the registration fee and
will allow all players, coaches and parents to correctly learn the
mechanics of throwing, hitting, fielding and pitching which makes
baseball so much fun. And,
to answer one question before it is repeatedly asked, yes we will begin
teaching pitching mechanics, even though they will not be used until
their 9 year old season, in order that the players, coaches and parents
learn this part of the game correctly from the beginning, avoiding
potential injuries before they can occur. INFORMATION
ON THE 9-10 DIVISION The rules for the 9-10
division are truly “real baseball” rules.
At this age group, the players are pitching and full stealing
rules are in effect, although there is a large amount of leniency
concerning balk rules with the pitchers.
The rules of this division also provide for a continuous batting
order (everyone is in the batting order, even though they may not be
playing defense at that time). The
game consists of a 6-inning game with a 1 hour, 30 minute time limit,
played by “real baseball” rules with three outs to an inning and
umpire(s) calling balls, strikes and outs.
This division will play a 16-game season.
Tournaments are optional at this age group, as there are two
league-sponsored tournaments available at additional cost.
Also teams at this age level are eligible to qualify for state
tournaments. Games will be
played on week nights through May, June and early July.
League select teams will play no more than one game per night
with game times of 6PM or 7:45 PM. League select teams
will be organized by schools, towns or areas so friends and classmates
can play on the same team. There
also will be teams entered in this age group which are coach-picked
teams. In addition to
its league games, all teams will be provided with a four-week player,
coach and parent clinic (to be held on Monday nights in late April and
early May) at the Twin Oaks Sports Complex.
This clinic, to be run by University of Missouri Baseball
Assistant Coach Chris Smith, is included in the registration fee and
will allow all players, coaches and parents to correctly learn the
mechanics of throwing, hitting, fielding and pitching which makes
baseball so much fun. Registration
Forms must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2001. Registration
forms postmarked after February 28, 2001 will be accepted if
space is available. BC
